My friend and I are were discussing starting up an inflatable rental business in Virginia,
but I am not sure if this is truly the business for me. I currently have a full-time job
and a wife with two kids. My friend and I live far away from each other so he would
run it in his area and I would run it in my area. From a time consumption standpoint,
how demanding is this on your weekends? How stressful is it on the family to run it
part-time? Can you be very profitable and make a good living running the business
full-time? I have ready various posts on doing this business full-time or part-time but
those posts were back in 05, 06,07 so I was curious to see if opinions or experiences
has changed? I know in Virginia this heat has been quite brutal this summer and
I am sure that has effected sales for others in the region.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!!

Do not start it with a partner! Haven't you read that yet? Its hard enough keeping records straight it being myself let alone another person. It takes $$ to start a legit company, so have some money ready. You will have to be able to answer your phone at any time to really get the customers. It is profitable, many are part timers with full time jobs, ( I did a poll on it if you can search for it). It takes a lot of inventory to go full time, or its not necessary with a few good people (work during the week getting things cleaned and ready for the weekend).

That will be non-existant for at least the 1st two years of opening an inflatable business, especially if you are doing it alone to start off with...

Simple answer to your question. You like your weekends with your family. In this business you have no weekends for a long time.

I am a part timer, I have 7 units and do all of the deliveries myself for the most part. On a Weekend with all my units out, Depending on how far I have to travel, I start delivering around 7:30-8am on and get done around Noon. I start picking up around 6pm and get done around 10pm-11pm, unless people request a later pick up. Being a new business, I try to accommodate people as much as possible. I usually see my wife and twins between noon and 5pm and then its back to work.
There aint no going places on the weekend except to the garage to load up units, do deliveries, pick up units, put them away and hope it don't rain.
Money is good by my standards, its a good feeling having your own business and being your own boss but its sweaty, ass bustin work. I like it but its not for everyone.
